Is Perth the Best Place to Buy Your First Home?
20 Feb 2017
At Origin Projects, we started out by developing land estates in Perth suburbs where young families and first home buyers could find affordable housing in places they would want to live. We have been successful beyond our original vision. Even though we have expanded to cover multiple demographics, we never forget our original mission.
Recently, we were heartened to see that a Bankwest study and report have determined that the Perth market is the best capital city area in Australia for first home buyers to buy homes. This is based on the amount of time it takes to save for a deposit.
According to Bankwest, a first home buyer in Perth buying an average home on an average household income would take 3.8 years to come up with the average 20% deposit of $101,300. In Australia, the average is 4.4 years for a $101,600 deposit.
For the state of Western Australia, it takes the average first home buyer 3.5 years to save the deposit. For comparison, the most difficult capital city is Sydney, where it takes 8.4 years to save a 20% deposit of $214,600.
Remember that the current First Home Owners Grant in WA is $15,000 from now until 31 December, 2017.
